ABSTRACT:
A 1L opposed-piston four stroke (OP4S) engine was modeled using GT-Power to create a baseline for naturally aspirated version of the engine. The model was used to explore performance related to volumetric efficiency and to improve upon the engine rated power performance through boosting via supercharging and turbocharging. An analysis was performed to look at changes in rated power, fuel consumption, and relative thermal efficiency for Natural Gas fuel. The results found that through turbocharging the engine was able to maximize its performance potential.
